The U.S. Sun is reporting on a “sad backslide” allegedly happening with Mama June Shannon. Inside sources—including Mama June’s husband, Justin Stroud—are speaking out. Justin claims that Mama June is “slacking” on her journey to sobriety and she’s lying “constantly” to her family.
The “family crisis” seems to be getting a lot worse on the reality show Mama June: Family Crisis. Mama June is currently 44 years old and Justin is 36. The Sun described how her daughter, 18-year-old Alana Thompson (aka Honey Boo Boo), has broken down in sobs over Mama June’s setbacks.

The Sun detailed an exclusive clip they’d received, taken from an upcoming episode of Family Crisis. This clip allegedly shows Justin coming clean about Mama June’s “current state of sobriety.”
According to the Sun, Justin has been sober for three years. In the clip, he’s having a heart-to-heart conversation with Joshua Efird, who is married to Mama June’s daughter, Pumpkin.
Justin says he’s been able to stay sober because he’s been honest about his issues and his recovery. Shockingly, Justin claims in the exclusive clip that Mama June is risking a relapse into substance dependency. She’s allegedly “lying” about what she’s doing behind closed doors.
Alana Said She Would Put Mama June in Jail
Justin and Joshua were having this serious conversation at an indoor playground. They were there to supervise some of the younger kids in the family who were having a playdate. Then Justin dropped a bombshell.
He claimed that Mama June is “slacking” in her duties as a mother. Justin thinks Mama June should have been honest and told Alana about losing a huge amount of money that was supposed to go to Alana when she turned 18.
Justin and Joshua agreed that Mama June had the opportunity to discuss this huge mistake when the family was undergoing therapy. However, she appears to have stayed silent and kept the real truth to herself.
The confrontation between Mama June and Alana has become a big scandal in Family Crisis. In a shocking episode, Alana begins to sob as she lists “all of June’s broken promises.”
Alana accused her mom of serious things. She also screams during the episode that she “don’t really give a [expletive] that [Mama June] took” her money.
Shockingly, Mama June didn’t lie about losing the money, but according to Justin, that doesn’t mean she was honest about it, either. According to the Sun, the issue has become Mama June blaming her “previous” substance problems. She is claiming that’s the reason she “lost” Alana’s money.
But the Sun also revealed that Alana confronted Justin about the “stolen money.” Shockingly, Alana asked Justin upfront if he knew anything about what her mom did.
During their confrontation, Mama June yelled back at Alana and claimed, “It was not stolen money!” Alana didn’t buy her mother’s excuses, and she said she would put Mama June “in jail” if that’s what it took.
Mama June Doesn’t Have Custody of Alana
Justin’s conversation with Joshua makes sense because Pumpkin was legally awarded full custody of Alana in June 2022. The Sun exclusively reported that a judge in a Georgia court took custody away from Mama June and awarded it to Pumpkin, who is about eight years older than Alana.
Court documents showed that Pumpkin had served as Alana’s guardian since April 29, 2019. The judge ruled, “It is in the best interests of the child that the plaintiff [Pumpkin] is awarded sole custody.”
One interesting point in the Georgia court ruling is that the judge ordered Mama June to pay “$800 in monthly child support to Pumpkin, beginning on May 1, 2022.” The child support was to continue until Alana turned 18—her 18th birthday was August 25, 2023.
Pumpkin and Joshua are still in their twenties and had a lot on their plate when Pumpkin became Alana’s sole guardian. They have four very young children, including the fraternal twins that Pumpkin gave birth to in May 2022.
As for Mama June, the Sun reported that her substance issues publicly “spiraled out of control” several years ago. At the time, Mama June was dating Geno Doak, and they were arrested in March 2019 on a charge of possession of substances.
